The New York Highway Use Tax, or NY HUT tax, is based on both the miles traveled on New York highways and the weight of the vehicle. New York Thruway toll miles must be reported but are not taxed by HUT. You must obtain a HUT permit if you travel New York roadways and your vehicle gross weight exceeds 18,000 lbs. Once you obtain a New York HUT permit you must file a HUT return each quarter. When you purchase the Road Tax Upgrade of My Fuel Tax you will have the capability of filing the New York HUT Tax (as well as New Mexico, Kentucky, and Oregon) using the miles already entered for your IFTA report. And your report will be printed as an exact duplicate of the official State form. You just print it and sign it.
At the bottom of the Edit Units Dialog are 4 Tabs, 1 for each of the states requiring a Highway use or Weight Distance Tax and which are covered by the Road Tax Upgrade. For New York begin by entering the NYHUT permit # for this unit. Next select whether this unit is a truck or a tractor and move on to select the proper schedule per the New York HUT instructions. Also fill in the unit weights depending upon which filing method you choose to use. *Note: The Unladen Weight of the vehicle should be filled in even if you are using the Gross Weight Method of filing.
The Rate Tables for New York should be checked against the current New York rates. The Rate Tables are easily edited if needed.
This is the Print Dialog for the New York Highway Use Tax, or NY HUT tax, Report. You will find it by clicking ‘All Reports’ in the gray menu bar of the Spinnaker Fuel Tax Welcome page. In this print dialog simply select a user (the same as User Profile) and select the quarter for which you wish to run the report. Then click ‘Create HUT Report’. The text box in the lower part of the dialog will list all units included in the report.
